The international carbon market

The Austrian JI/CDM Programme

Since 2003, KPC has been active in the international carbon market on behalf of the Austrian Environment Ministry. The objective of the Austrian JI/CDM Programme, managed by KPC, is to contribute to the achievement of the Austrian Kyoto target through the purchase of CO2 emission reduction certificates from climate-protection projects in other countries.

Joint Implementation and the Clean Development Mechanism are instruments to promote the implementation of specific projects abroad resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

As to the technology employed, the main focus is on the use of renewable sources of energy, combined heat and power plants, fuel switch projects, energy efficiency projects as well as waste-management measures.

Climate Austria

The underlying idea of Climate Austria, a project initiated in cooperation with the Environment Ministry and Austrian Airlines in 2008, was to raise awareness for the fight against global warming and to promote the idea through attractive offers.

As an instrument of the voluntary carbon market, Climate Austria helps to offset the CO2 emissions caused by air travel and household energy consumption. With small contributions, businesses and private individuals can support national or international climate protection projects.

Besides the online booking platform of Austrian Airlines, three Climate Corners are available at Vienna Airport for passengers to learn more about Climate Austria and to offset their flight-related emissions by means of a few mouse clicks immediately before departure.

You can access all online carbon offsetting offers under climate austria
